Providing accessible, compassionate, and effective dental care to vulnerable children in need throughout the Puget Sound.
Our History
Lindquist Dental Clinic for Children was founded in 1936 and originally named after Carl E. Lindquist, a Tacoma banker and philanthropist. The original Carl E. Lindquist School Clinic was supported by the Tacoma School District and The Federation of Social Agencies (now the United Way of Pierce County) and served students in the Tacoma School District.
In 1975, the clinic moved to Bates Technical College and then Clover Park Technical College, serving the community as an educational clinic. In 1998, the demand for low-cost children’s dental care increased and we began operating the clinic in a rented 5 chair dental clinic in Parkland, south of Tacoma. At that time, the organization transitioned from an teaching clinic with limited hours of service to being entirely professionally staffed with 8am to 5pm hours of service.
In 2001, we purchased a larger building in Parkland, and in 2002 changed the name to Lindquist Dental Clinic for Children (LDCC). Between 2000 and 2002, LDCC increased patient services by over 50% and began literally “bursting at the seams.” In 2005, we expanded our Parkland clinic to 10 chairs. Between 2009 and 2010 we opened two additional clinics, including Gig Harbor/Key Peninsula (3 chairs in the Boys and Girls Clubs of South Puget Sound’s Jim and Carolyn Milgard Family HOPE Center) and South Tacoma (6 chairs in the Boys and Girls Clubs of South Puget Sound’s Donald C. Topping Regional HOPE Center) and we launched a community and school-based Dental Outreach program. In September 2013, we renovated our Parkland clinic, expanding from 10 to 15 chairs as well as updating equipment, adding an expanded sterilization area and additional waiting room, flooring and office space. In October 2013, we opened a 6 chair dental clinic in Bremerton in a new facility adjacent to and in partnership with the Boys and Girls Club of South Puget Sound’s new Bremerton Teen Center. During this same time, we extended our Parkland Clinic hours to include every other Saturday. In five years, our school-based program, providing screenings and preventive services, has expanded from 12 to 35 Pierce County schools.
